Podcast: Chris Writes a Synopsis for Interface
podcast no-i-in-writing interface writing-process
I did not want to write a synopsis. Nobody wants to write a synopsis. But I did it, and — annoyingly — it turned out to be one of the most useful exercises in the entire writing process. Condensing Interface down to its essential beats forced me to confront some character development issues and pacing problems I had been happily ignoring. Christy and I talk through how that process worked and why it’s worth the pain.
Topics Covered
- The surprisingly clarifying power of synopsis writing
- Identifying character development issues you didn’t know you had
- Plot and pacing problems that only show up when you zoom out
- How distilling your story forces clearer thinking
Shout Outs
- All the introverts at the Scheuer family Christmas party — you know who you are
- Toby Hinnebusch (RIP) — remembered fondly
